US shuts down 350 websites linked to arms import
The US administration has shut down at least 350 websites used to secretly import gun silencers and parts from China. These parts are used to convert semi-automatic pistols into fully automatic machine guns. News Reuters.
Federal prosecutors in Boston said the websites were seized based on the results of an investigation that began in August 2023. The investigation was carried out on various websites, businesses and individuals that allowed the illegal sale and importation of machine gun conversion devices.
They also said law-enforcement forces secretly bought arms-related materials from those websites. As a result, these products were often mislabeled on packages from China, e.g., as 'necklace' or 'toy’.
The packages originally contained machine gun conversion devices known as 'switches' or gun silencers. According to the US federal National Firearms Act, they are prohibited from importation.
